Totemics

(2014)

Totemics (2014–) is an ongoing series of concrete visual poems that utilizes different character fonts in MS Word to illustrate phrases that, stacked one on top of the other in a totem-like structure, represents a condition of anxiety or paranoia, informed by 21st century norms.

While the words effectively replace the mystical emblems and associations of the totem, they also allude to the power of language, and how words can be transformed from the sacred to the mundane, albeit with an aesthetic formality in a distinctly vertical and visual structure.

 One of the works from
Totemics was published in ToCall magazine No.14, edited and designed by petra schulze-wollgast and published by Plaugolt Satzwechsler (psw).
