Record Sunset

(2018)

Record Sunset is an artist book composed of a set of 12 text works featuring calendar images of tropical sunsets that asks: how does our predilection for paradise blind us to the truth of our environmental reality as a planet threatened by global warming? For each month, black block text stands juxtaposed against impossibly perfect images, disrupting and disambiguating the romance of the sunset with the cheap commodification of nature. The dimensions of the paper are the same size as a 12″ vinyl record sleeve, evoking associations with “record-breaking” and “record temperatures,” while suggesting a possible future music of the next great mass extinction.

Record Sunset was included as part of the Stop Extinction! Restore the Earth  online exhibition curated by the Embassy Cultural House for Earth Day 2021.
